My ds is 8 weeks old today and has a cold and feeling really sorry for himself. He is 2 months old on Sunday. Can I give him Calpol or is it too early?

I think he can have 2.5 ml

That's what say after first vaccinations which is 8 weeks?

Here you go;

For use after Men B vaccinations (at 2 and 4 months):
 Age of child
Up to 6 months (usually at 2 and 4 months)
 Dose 1
One 2.5ml dose as soon as possible after  vaccination
 Dose 2
One 2.5ml dose 4-6 hours after first dose
 Dose 3
One 2.5ml dose 4-6 hours after the second dose

For pain & other causes of fever:
 Age of child
 How much
 2-3 months
2.5ml (if necessary, after 4-6  hours, give a second  2.5ml  dose)
Only give if your baby weighs over 4kg and was born after 37 weeks

Leave at least 4 hours between doses

Do not give more than two doses. This is to ensure that fever that may be due to a serious infection is quickly diagnosed. If your child is still feverish after two doses, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

It may be too late now, but bear in mind that those two doses mentioned in the leaflet are it until he's three months old. I remember looking into it before the 8 week jags in case we needed it (in the days before it was given routinely with them) and assuming that the box meant two doses in 24 hrs. The pharmacist was very insistent that those two doses were all that was allowed until he was three months old, and that Calpol should only be given in extreme circumstances at that age.

It's now recommended that you give three doses of Calpol after the 8 week jags because the risk of fever with Bexsero outweighs the risks of the extra dose of calpol, but in general circumstances it's still very much not recommended at that age.

Thanks for the advice youcannot luckily we only gave 1 dose which seemed to help him sleep enough to feel abit better. He still has the cough and sniffles but seems a lot better in himself
