Daughter had a achy foot on and off for years. Went to dr 18 mths ago and after trying different things referred us to orthopeadics. They gave her and mri back in Nov but more to reaffirm his 'growing pains' diagnosis.
They have said she's got transient osteoporosis and hes never seen it in a child.
Shes got to wear a brace for 6 weeks and then have another mri.
Anyone else had this ? Shes really worried as very sporty and doesnt want this to be the end of that as hoping to be a pe teacher (shes only 12).
Tia

Hi...

I don't know what transient osteoporosis is, but my DD, 13, has osteopenia and or osteoporosis (they apparently don't have the figures for paediatric patients so are not sure) due to chemo she had for two types of cancers as a child. She was diagnosed about 2-3 years ago. She doesn't need a brace but she does have achy legs and feet often, almost every day especially after school as she does a lot of walking and climbing up and down stairs all day. She is on high doses of Calcium and Vit D3, and her doctors advise her to eat 4 daily servings of calcium and at least 3 hours of exercise a week, especially weight-bearing, such as brisk walks. Yoga and swimming are also good. Do avoid high-risk activities such as skiing, ice-skating, and the like. My DD fractured both heel bones two years ago at brownie camp, possibly just from skipping rope. I get her the best trainers that we can find, with the thickest soles, to absorb ipact better, and we find it reduces pain a bit, and she hasn't had another fracture since...
Have you asked her doctors about sports etc?
Let me know how your daughter gets on....take care...

Sorry I meant four daily servings of dairy products or other foods with calcium in it!

And I meant impact. Sorry for the typos!
