does anyone have any experience of this? my Dd was diagnosed with it 2 weeks ago. hospital said she will be fine in about 4 weeks and is no more likely to get it again than anyone else. But am reading and hearing evidence to the contrary and feel worried that she is going to always have pain in her joints and be hobbling around. She often gets viruses and now im worried she will never be rid

Hi Woody
I was posting about this only in November. My daughter was diagnosed mid November and had really swollen ankles, knees and elbows as well as the rash. She has been lucky and not had any kidney involvement but she is still being monitored - hopefully you have been directed to the GP for monitoring for her kidneys too as they need to be checked for several months after the onset of HSP. Her joints were sore and swollen for around 2 weeks and then the swelling settled reasonably though she had some pain in them still for a few weeks. She has had no more problems to date with it since it settled down and she has had one mild cold since then without incident. We used paracetamol when needed and avoided ibuprofen at the recommendation of the hospital as this can affect the kidney function if there are HSP kidney related issues.

I joined a couple of facebook discussion groups and it can be quite scary to hear the stories of some people but it does seem that there is a complete range of longer term with many doing just fine but others having problems. It does seem the younger they are when they develop it the more likely there will be a complete resolution.

I hope your daughter is feeling better soon - mine is still watched carefully despite being symptom free for a good few weeks now.

thank you that is reassuring. hospital were just very blase saying it will go and that will definitely be the end of it. yes she is having urine and bp checked weekly and been fine so far. thats interesting about the ibuprofen ive been giving that to her regularly.

My dd2 had this in April 2013 when she was 5, and three years on (touch wood) she is a very healthy happy 8 year old who hasn't had any reoccurring problems or HSP since (please may it stay that way). She had the rash all over her legs and was monitored weekly for about 6 weeks but was always fine thankfully.

The stories can be very scary but we were also told she is no more likely to get it again than anyone else. Wishing your dd better soon.

My son was diagnosed a few years ago and we had a rough couple of months and then nothing for 4 years +.
I hope your case is like ours. Good luck. Flowers
