dd had 2 teeth out under general on Friday, at tea time she presettned me with a tiny sliver of tooth, I didn't think much of it, I have just had a look in her mouth with a pen torch and there is a bit of tooth still in the hole, is this normal? I rang the childrens hospital but they dont have any dental people in and the dental hospital is not open till am. I start a new placement in am and can't take time off unless an absolute emergency.

Is there any possibility that the tooth you can see is the tip of the adult one underneath?

Dita don't worry you can get little bits of tooth come out after the main tooth, they are called sequestra and that translates as 'following', just little pieces that maybe came off when it was removed. Nothing to worry about, they can come up through the gum for a few weeks or more if you had a traumatic extraction, however normally you don't get any or very many.

They work their own way out usually.

Is she alright otherwise? It is horrid for them isn't it, one of mine had four out over a period of about a year, one at a time. Luckily local anaesthetic but still.

hope she is ok.

she is absolutely fine in herself, was a bit drowsy on the day but bored by tea time. Down to painkillers twice a day so I am not worried about infection or anything. I think local would be worse.
