Dangerous chemicles in plastics

I use a tommee tippee microwave steriliser for my sons bottles (he is 5 weeks old), but it is quite big and clunky and not suitable for sterilizing his pacifiers quickly. Looking online I found a microwave steriliser for £7 on amazon which seemed a bit expensive for what it was - I easily made my own by piercing a hole in a small plastic food container. All i have to do is fil it with about a cemtimeter of water, put the pacifier in, then microwave for three minutes - basically following the same instructions for the £7 steriliser. This has been working fine fir me for the last week or so.

However, someone pointed out to me that this was not safe as there might be dangerous chemicles in the plastic container I was using as it was not intended for that use. Is this likely? It is a container meant for use with food afterall, and I purchased it in the uk so it should conform to regulations, right?

Not sure at all how I would find this out, does anyone know whether what I have been doing is safe?

The mam dummies come in a little box which you use to sterilise them in. I wouldn't risk home made steriliser although I'm sure it won't have done harm.

I just looked up what the codes on plastic means, and found out that the tub im using is safe, and also its actually the same kind of plastic that the tommee tippee steriliser is made of. Phew!

I think I will get a mam dummy though as I would prefer to use a proper steriliser and its great if that comes with it
