Just arrived on holiday and was putting Sun lotion I'm my DD's back and noticed the back of her neck / top of spine is swollen, probably about a couple of inches horizontally. She says it is not sore and it does not appear red but I'm worried what it could be, anyone have any experience with this?

It sounds like you need to get it looked at by your GP. Without being able to see or feel what the lump is like it is really difficult to suggest what it might be. There is a prominent vertebra at the top of the spine. Could that be what you're feeling? Chances are all is fine but worth getting checked out if you're worried.

I can feel the vertebra that you mention just at the top of spine, the swelling seems to cover this area...it feels soft to touch (swelling area) almost fatty or fluid like. Just worried as we are in different country on holiday and wasn't sure if this was urgent....Thanks for reply.

It is a fairly common place for people to store a bit of fat so maybe you're noticing a little roll you hadn't spotted before. If your daughter is otherwise well I don't think I'd worry about getting it looked until I got home. I'd just keep an eye on it (and her) to see if anything changes. Obviously you're in the best position to judge whether you want to hunt out a medic wherever you are at the moment.

Wishing you a good holiday and a speedy solution to your daughter's mystery swelling.Flowers
