How many teeth is it normal to lose aged 10?

My DS is 10 years old and in the last 2 months, he has lost 4 teeth in quick succession and still has another 4 loose... We go to the dentist regularly and apart from 1 superficial filling in a baby tooth 6m ago, he's had no problems. We're currently away travelling for a year and tbh, he's eaten quite a lot of sweets and had more soft drinks since we've been away- much more than I'd like. Now I'm worried that all the tooth losses are because of this! He's losing a tooth a fortnight and it's freaking me out! Is this normal?!

The two of mine that have lost teeth seemed to lose a load at once. The tooth fairy was skint. Not it seems to have slowed down. Baby teeth tend to fall out when they are ready it seems unlikely that extra sweets and things would make that happen.

Thank you YouMakemydreams! That's reassuring! This tooth fairy is skint and as we're travelling, we're on a tight budget, so this unexpected cost is starting to cause a bit of an issue, lol! He's grown about 2 inches as well since we've been away. All he needs to do at this rate is grow some chest hair, and he'll have left the UK a boy, and come home a man!

DS1 has all his adult teeth and now has a brace. He's 11 next month.
His friend has only lost 2 teeth.

Hugely variable.

Dentist here. There are 12 baby teeth that are supposed to be lost at around 10. There is some variation though, and more or fewer than this could be normal.

My ds lost 8 teeth when he just turned 11 - he continuously had one tooth or another wobbly between August and October. They seemed very stubborn to fall out and caused a certain amount of distress, wobbling for weeks on end.

Dd (now 13) only lost 4 at the same age, I only remember one hanging on for dear life, otherwise it was very straightforward.

Thank you all for your replies! Feeling much better now. Wellies- he seemed to have these wobbly teeth for absolutely months, and all of a sudden, they're now dropping out, just like that! He does have adult teeth showing between the gaps. TBH, I think even he's been worried that the sweets may have had something to do with it- would it be really mean to let him believe this may still be the case?! Ha ha!
