My son has had two small pea sized lumps in the back of his head since he has been a baby (he is almost 2 now).
I mentioned them to the doctor and he said they were lymph nodes/glands and not to worry.
He had chicken pix around 4 weeks ago and the one swole double in size.
I took him to the docs and went back a week later. She has told me she doesnt seem worried but will refer him to a pediatrtion to find out what they are even though the one has reduced in size.
i haver been looking online and an terrified as it mentions cancer.
has anyone else had any experience of these?

Hi I have a 3yr old who has been discharged from consultant today with severe cervical swollen glands. After several visits to GP we were getting nowhere even though he had other symptons. Just like yourself we checked internet and were frightened when we seen suggestions of lymphona etc.. We went back to doctor and demanded to be referred. We visited consultant who did full blood counts among other tests and it turns out that he had a nasty bacterial infection that four weeks of strong antibiotics cleared and blood count was normal again.

Ask your Gp for blood tests to see if WBC is raised which suggests infections. Try not to worry (know that is hard...I have been stressing for last two months) does your little one have any other symptons? Are any other glands swollen in rest of body (consultant was always checking my boys under arms tummy for spleen and groin area) she said generalised (throughout body) suggests more investigation and localised suggests infection.

Best to be on safe side. Ask for a blood test as referral could take up to 8 weeks especially if Gp not that worried. Sorry for the ramble hope it helps ease your mind x

He is totally fine in himself but like you mentioned it is worrying as he has had them from birth.

My GreatNephew had swollen glands, noticed at about 2 months.
His parents had lots of tests (I don't know exactly what) but another mum who they knew had a child with Glue ear and it was investigated when the child was about 2.5.
He had gromits put in and the swellings have gone down.

Pleases don't worry. My son had a swollen gland at that age for six months. Doc was not worried. He did keep an eye on it and told me to also but it eventually went away.

The doc is only referring you as a precaution. He or she may think it will assuage your worries.

In the absence of other symptoms this is most likely to be nothing . Funny my son's gland was up after chicken pox also.

My GP told me that of he went into any class about half the kids would have at least one swollen gland of one type or another. Their immune systems are still developing and sometimes over react to a threat, like a virus,by enlarging lymph nodes.
