Lump on baby's head - any experience?

Hi - we've just noticed a lump on the head of our 11month old DD.

It's about the size of a large pea, hard (but not quite as hard as bone) and doesn't move. It's located near the base of her skull and off centre to the right.

I'm going to book a doctors
appointment when they open, but just wanted to see if anyone had any experience of this?

Trying not to worry as I'm sure it's fine, but there is always that doubt... Hmm

Is it sort of behind her ear?
I found one there on DS when he was about 18 months. Hoofed it down to the docs in a panic to be told 'ah yes. Gristle!'.
Bizarre, but completely harmless.

Thanks for replying perplexed. It isn't really behind her ear - it's more just off centre near the base of her skull. Doesn't seem sensitive though and definitely not a head-bump.

Dd had this and it was a cyst apparently, went awy on its own, was pretty much exactly as you describe.

I've just taken my 9 month old PFB to the Pead. Doctor for the same thing. DD had a lump in the same place as your LO since birth, which I mentioned at her 8 week check, they weren't concerned unless she developed anymore, which she did hence the Pead. appointment.

Doctor was said they are likely to be lymph nodes/glands which are a result of a high temperature and the bodies immune response to this. He sent DD for blood test just in case. The only worry would be if they got much bigger.

Going to the doctor may put your mind at rest as it did with me but in the meantime, try not to worry.

Thanks all - much appreciated and reassuring. I have an appointment tomorrow and will let you know what the doctor says.

My 8 month old has this too, I was almost taking her to A&E before my mum told me to behave! It was her lymph nodes, you may find another lump on the other side!
GP said as long as it doesn't get a lot bigger. It's normal for them to reduce and swell up again. My DD's get bigger with teething and an outbreak with her eczema.

Lindsay The doc linked my DD's to her ezcema as well. So that's reassuring.

Hi everyone -doctor says lymp nodes as she's had chicken pox and is teething. Sigh of relief! :)
