Putting weight back on after an illness

DD1 has had a horrendous stomach bug - which is better now, but she has visibly lost weight, her hip bones and ribs are jutting out Sad.

She never eats lots and has always been slim, does anyone have any tips for upping the calories without just offering lots of biscuits and chocolate (much as she would enjoy that Grin)?

don't worry about it as quick as they can lose it they put it back on! My dd aged 8 has just had this but took just a few days to get better! One thing I did was keep her home til she was 100%, and didn't ship her back to school asap, as she was very weak x

Thanks, that's reassuring. She's climbing up the walls to go back to school today - tomorrow is the last day before 1/2 term so I might send her in, on the basis that nothing too strenuous is likely to happen!

I am trying to gain weight and have been advised (as an adult, of course!) to have whole milk, dairy based puddings, never skin meals, snack on cereal bars... Dietician said calories more important than being healthy for now, so to have two puddings a day if I like! Grin

Thanks, all makes sense. I'll get the whole milk and buy some creamy desserts, try to make sure she snacks. Perhaps we'll do some baking this weekend!
