DS2 - coffee coloured patches on the skin

I've suddenly noticed them in 2 little gatherings on his shoulders, about 6-7 tiny coffee coloured patches. I've never noticed them before, DS is 6 and so far very healthy.

I googled and now I'm worried about neurofibromas. Sad

Should I be concerned about this, is it something to get checked out anyway?

DS has very blonder hair and however much sun cream and hats I lit on him he goes very brown in the summer, so atm he is very tanned on his arms/legs/face but still pale on his shoulders where the patches are, I've not looked for anymore I don't want to alarm him.

"Cafe au lait" marks are very, very common (my DCs both have them) but your googling has clearly got you worried. By all means go to your GP and ask about neurofibromatosis. Odds are that they can put your mind at rest.

I feel a bit silly Blush I must remember never to Google!

It was the sudden appearance more than anything that worried me, his Dad had tis of skin tags and freckles and moles though so I guess it's likely to be a genetic thing.

I'll get it looked at anyway or I'll fret.

Is it café au lait, they're very common, and nothing to worry about.

If you are worried talk with your GP, but I wouldn't mention you've seen Dr death Google first!

Cafe au lait spots are generally only worrying if more than 6 before age 5, in my understanding
