Hi
My 3yo dd is really suffering with bad constipation
She usually takes one movicol a day to help

But this hasn't worked this week and she is in an awful state

She is now so backed up she is refusinhv to push and holding it in till her wee body is now forcing out tiny bits

So far today she has had four movicol but we have been thru 5 pairs of pants because she is refusing to go to the toilet then her body is taking over

I have sat her on the toilet nearly all day up until 20 minutes at a time then it gets to the point where she hysterical and I have to let her off for both our sanity

Please someone give me any ideas of anything else that may help

A home remedy I've used is brown sugar or molasses dissolved in a little hot water then topped up with cold water to get to a palatable temperature.

I can vouch for fresh orange juice with the bits in it. It's probably becase it's so hot that she is dehydrating without realising it. Up her fluids with fibrous stuff - like oj. Another one that always works for my 2 is fresh corn on the cob or pears. Could she be bribed with fruit if she doesnt want to drink. A huge slice of melon is mainly water.

I would take her back to the GP if it continues. Increasing the movicol should help but it may take a few days. She may benefit from movicol to soften it in combination with another medicine to help push it out- sodium picosulfate.
