Repeated biopsies for my 3yo DD, please reassure me.

DD1 has been poorly since 5 months old, and despite referral to a significant childrens hospital we don't seem to have got too much further in the way of a diagnosis.
My dear daughter has had 6 investigations in the last 6 months, and so far they realise there is abnormalities but as I say they are not further forward than this. But, they do keep taking biopsies of her oesophagus. Why? I think I know why- but why, really? I'm guessing it must be indicated so to speak. But I can't help but switching from omg they must be looking out for nasties and thank god they are keeping an eye on it.
Her last short stay was at the end of last week. Doesn't help that it was a different cons that did the last procedure and she categorically emphasised that she was concerned by the appearance of the oesophagus.
Rambling, sorry.
Bumped into one of dds more regular specialists in the hospital and said should I be worried to which he basically said abnormal tissue has been there before and histology would sort that out.
Argh, going insane!

You must be so worried, you poor thing. Have they given you no indication of what it's all about? If not, that seems mad to me.

I know they sometimes do biopsies if they suspect severe acid reflux. Could that be it?

Also biopsy sometimes done if eosinophilic oesophagitis is suspected. I think that is usually caused by allergy, eg to milk.

Thank you Ragusa, envy

As of feb this year they have realised that reflux may/does have a part to play in this (!) although she doesn't fit the usual pattern.
She strictured as a baby, and had 4 dilatations under general. According to this last scope ( which also facilitated the biopsy and the siting of a probe for an impedence study) the cons said her oesophagus was very fibrotic.

Her main issue these days is regurgitation and as such a limited tolerable diet.

I guess I am just worrying!
