How can I relieve my baby's mucusy throat??

My 4 month old ds has an awful cold which is really getting him down in the grumps Hmm. I can hear the mucus build up in the back of his throat when he breaths but just can't seem to be able to get him to bring it up. I've tried patting his back but nothing has appeared. Does anyone know what I can use to help loosen it or at least how I can make it more comfortable for him??

Sitting in the bathroom with hot warer running helps, the steam will help him get rid of the mucous.

Hope he gets better soon x

Use saline in his nose (you can get drops rather than sprays which I can't stand let alone a baby) and wait for a bit and then suck it all out with a nasel aspirator - they have filters so you don't have contact with the snot. If you do that regularly, then you can help prevent it going down the throat.
He won't like it and it will be a struggle but my son has learnt to accept it because it makes him feel better. He's 2 1/2 though.
