4 month old coughing after feeds

Sorry I also posted in parenting, didn't realise there was a health forum. I'm posting this for a friend who's in middle of multiple horrendous stress and hasn't had a chance to sign up herself... any advice or thoughts gratefully received. Over to her...

My 4 month old has had a horrible cough for going on two months now
He coughs like an old man, then retches and vomits up his feed (if he has just eaten) It can happen after feeds or just randomly, day and night

It's really distressing. He's my second baby and I'm definitely not being neurotic. Our nanny said that the cough 'scares her'.

Been to the doctors three times now. Last time was monday and was meant to be referred to paediatrician but still not heard from them and its friday!

It's definitely not infection cos he's happy and healthy (when he's not coughing)

Any ideas? I'm really scared it's asthma... We have no family history

I had whooping cough vaccine when preg and he's had all his vaccines
Assuming it can't by cystic fibrosis cos he's been tested?

Could it be reflux which he is then aspirating and having to cough the milk up?

I'm not sure about it only developing at 2 months old though.

Paediatric referrals can sometimes take a long time. Even an 'urgent' one. Can you phone the hospital and see where you are on the waiting list (or even to check that they've got the referral).

Sorry, I don't know anything about asthma.

I can imagine how scary it must be. Good luck. I hope you get some answers soon.
