DS (20MO) was diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth and chicken pox this week.

I am coming up 27 weeks pregnant so I've had to have a blood test as I have never had chicken pox before.

I haven't taken DS out all week expect for a run around in our garden.

My family keep telling me that it is not fair to keep him in and he should be going out, I completely disagree because I know how chicken pox can affect vulnerable people. I get the same comment everyday how I am doing wrong by DS and that it wouldn't matter if we went out, I would like to hear what other people think about this?

I will wait until we both have the all clear by the GP as I feel that this is only fair on other people, the comments from my family are getting under my skin now.

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Chickenpox/Pages/Prevention.aspx - show them the nhs info that says to stay at home if you have chicken pox

You are doing the right thing by staying at home with him.

When my dd had chicken pox 6wks ago i kept her indoors for a week. Its best not to be around other children and vulnerable people until the blisters have dried up and scabbed over. She also had hand foot mouth at 10months:( which is also contagious and again we stayed in until it had cleared up. It would maybe be ok visiting family that have had chickenpox just to get out the house. I think you are doing the right thing though. I hope hes better soon

I think it depends where you go. As long as you are outside and not too near anyone else then fine.
