Anyone got any immune system boosts? My three dc have been on and off ill since Christmas. We have had sick bugs, flu, sore throats, and now we're on about 3rd bout of cold/sore throats, and they're not even at school. I can't take it anymore. It's messing with my sanity. Does anyone have any ideas on how to build up better immunity? They are pretty good at eating veg and fruit, and they're not too fussy, although don't always eat everything I eat, but that's a different thread.

I sympathize. Mine too. One bloody thing after another. Always sicky/coughs/snotty and ESPCIALLY whiny. With poor sleeping. No advice, but I'll join you in an ARGHHHHH.

www.goodreads.com/book/show/1294935.The_Big_Book_Of_Juices_And_Smoothies.

Do u have a juicer? If so this book has loads of recipes, and gives a freak down of how good each juice is for energy immunity digestion and skin.

Hippy stuff I'm sure u will think but worth a try and got nothing to loose.

Also manuka honey is really good for you.

Cook with chilli and ginger too.

Butternut squash carrot and ginger soup is fab. I always have some in freezer for when dc's are ill.

My sympathies. It is grim when you just go from one thing to the other.

Would second the probiotics recommendation. Tons and tons and tons of them, pref ones you buy in capsule form (I like Custom 1 probiotics, Culturelle and Threelac). They are unfortunately not cheap though. If funds don't allow, the yoghurt drinks with probiotics in are a good start.

Also highly recommend elderberry extract, normally goes by name sambucus or something similar sounding. You could google if interested. One of THE best natural things to boost immune system. It also has the advantage of tasting sweet and delicious to a child.

How clean is your house?

It can be too clean and the dcs need to be exposed to some level of germs to build up immunity

Practical things include take them to the park, I know it's cold but wrap them up, they won't care, take them to soft play etc exposes them to background germs and allows them to build up immunity

It has been an awful year for bugs for us too and most of our friends have been saying similar. So you are probably not doing too bad with immunity, it is just so much about!

I have no fresh ideas really but do think healthy diet, fresh air, air your home, exercise and laughing are about all you can do. I up the amount of garlic and ginger in cooking sometimes and vit c foods like broccoli etc.

Oh, and wash hands a lot. That is the number one thing they do in hospital to limit transfer so every time you come in, before every meal etc.

Am so with you! We've had the pox, sickness bugs twice, flu, countless coughs and colds etc etc... I can't remember what my lovely DDs are like when they're well!

I keep getting ill too, every other week, so went to the GP who told me that it was the worst winter she'd known for bugs. Advised to wash hands as much as possible.

What about giving them some vit D supplements? It's been a long winter and the lack of sunshine isn't good for the immune system
