my son has developed asthma. I don't know how to monitor whether he is using inhalers properly. It is oppressive forcing him to do it in front of me, but I don't think he appreciates how essential it is to use the inhalaers properly and regularly. any advice?

Hi, no advise on the teenage front, however I'm sure he is just as difficult to take them as my 2 year old!! Smile

Is he on a preventer? He must know that it is essential that he takes it EVERY day as prescribed, as it is not effective if not taken daily, he may as well not be taking them at all.
I would make him take them in front of you and hopefully he will eventually just fall into the habit of just doing it himself,

As to the reliever inhaler, trust me he will use it just fine when he is struggling to breath!!
Good luck, we have a lovely asthma support thread going in the childrens health section x
