Infected chickenpox?

Hi,

DS2 (2.4) has had chickenpox since last week. Hasn't been too bad with it, quite a few spots but not completely covered. Most are scabbing over now but he's got a couple which I'm a bit worried about - both have red rings round them which I'm worried means they're infected. They're just under where his nappy waistband is so I presume they're not getting much air which obviously wouldn't help them to heal.

Should I be worried - do I need to take him to a doc or is it OK just to put Savlon on?

He also has very hard pea sized lumps behind both ears - could they be swollen glands? Is that normal with chickenpox or is it a sign of something else?

Thanks

My ds2 and my self have chicken pox this week aswell we are using calamine lotion to stop the itching, piroten also stops alot of itching if he does become covered.
If it takes awhile to get an appointment at your doctors try your local walk in clinic or ask a pharmacist.
I use the rule of thumb if in doubt check it out with my kids, remember your never wasting a doctors time for anything that you have concerns over either for yourself or your children

DH, DS1 and DS2 have all had chickenpox in the past month; DS1 didn't have red rings around his spots but both DH and DS2 did. DS2 has also got a few which have turned into giant scabs (think 1 cm across) but he seems fine in himself.

I wouldn't worry too much tbh but yes, go to doctor if you're worried. Maybe let him run around nappy-free for a bit to let some air get to them?

If it is infected he will probably get antibiotic ointment, so probably best to make an appointment with your GP.

Thanks all, I went to the docs and they are infected so I got an antibiotic cream which we have to use for 7 days. It was worth going (even if I did have to get through the rottweiler of a receptionist first - what is wrong with these people??!).

Thanks for the advice.
