7 year old dd getting a bit overweight?

Actually I'm not sure about her weight, as we don't own any scales. It just strikes me that in the last few months she has been filling out a lot, her tummy sticks out quite a lot and I can barely lift her. She is always hungry, and eats big portions of food. Is this just a growth spurt and she will suddenly go very tall?

It's such a delicate issue for girls isn't it, I haven't said anything to her about it, we do eat a healthy diet, not constant junk food and I try to make sure there's plenty of healthy snacks around instead of crisps and sweets etc.

All 3 of my DDs will get a bit chubby before a growth spurt. If you're confident she's eating a healthy diet (and it looks like you are), then I'd just keep an eye on her, encourage lots of exercise and, if she's hungry, fill her up with fruit and such like.

BTW, have her feet recently grown? That's another common sign of a growth spurt with my lot.

I suppose it could just be a growth spurt. I'm just worried that she is eating too much and it's teaching her bad habits for the future. I think trickle by trickle we've probably praised her for her appetite, well done for finishing her plate etc, and she's learned that eating well gets her attention. Her little sister is a picker, and is much smaller in build and height than she ever was.
