Hi there, my 20 month old has had conjuctavitus 4 times in about 3 months! Yesterady he woke up with another cold and this morning has green snot coming out of eyes again. Does anyone know the difference between conjuctivitus ans just snot in eyes. ?? His eyes do not look red or puffy or seem to be irratating him. He really hates the drops so am hoping someone is going to come on here and tell me its not conjuctavitus :-). thanks in advance.

Is the green coming out of his eyes? Or is it snot just going into his eyes?

Were his eyelids stuck together when he woke up?

Sounds like it could be conjuctivitis, related to his cold. If his snot has got into his eyes anyway that can be enough to cause an infection with all the nasties lurking in there.

Docs trip may be a good idea if possible - they'll obviously be able to tell you for sure.

Poor lad Sad make sure you keep his eyes clean! Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Both my dcs,esp ds, are prone to this. I am fairly certain it has never been conjuntivitis. No red eyes, usually both simulataneously, not sticky on waking and generally the same colour/consistency as what's coming out of the nose.

I have never kept him off nursery (did with dd once but, was more to placate them and have a nice mummy and baby day ).

It's almost certainly conjunctivitis, which is quite common in young children when they have a cold. I would bathe with cool, boiled water and see how it goes. Most cases resolve spontaneously but take him to the doctor if it lasts more than 4 or 5 days.

well, not stuck together no, but after nap time eye lashes looked stuck together. He always gets with cold, just his eyes are never sore or red or puffy, so really not sure it is conjuctavitus. and is always same green snot colour thats coming out of nose! have been bathing, will take to docs monday if not clearing. feel sorry for him! no one else in family ever gets it either.thanks for replies x

Does sound more like snot!!!

It seems a hell of a coincidence if he always seems to get it when he has a cold.

My DS who is 22 months just had the same thing. Waking up with really gunky eyes but he has a bit of a green nose too. My DH is an optician and he tells me it isn't conjunctivitis as once the eyes are bathed his eyes aren't red and sore/itchy.

Stayed gunky for about 2 days.
