Could this be croup?

Ds is 16 months. He became unwell on Sunday, took him to gp on Monday & was told he had a virus.
He improved yesterday & arranged to go back to work. Overnight his temp raised to 38.9 & is not responding to calpol. He has a cough & sounds rattley. Got emergency apt at 130.
Been googling & discovered croup symptoms. Any advice?

Croup has a special noise all of it's own. It sounds like an animal barking, not a rattly cough. You won't ever forget the sound once you've heard it.

You've done the right thing by getting an emergency appt.

Sorry I didn't see this reply earlier.

If it gets very high and you're worried forget the GP appt and go to A&E

Thank goodness you got a prompt diagnosis. Hopefully, your ds will respond well to antibiotics and be on the mend very soon.

Yes. We are waiting for a bed. He's currently asleep on dh. The little oxygen tubes break your heart. They have been really great, just no beds, were going to transfer us to another London hospital but apparently not now.

So been transferred to the ward..... they were suprised to see he was a baby (ish). They were expecting a 15 year old not 15 month old Hmm
They have no cots & wanted him to sleep in an adult bed with me in a camp bed. I am in the hospital bed with him on top.

Much better to cuddle him if that's what he wants.

I hope you get a peaceful night and he's on the mend really soon.

How is he now?

He's doing well. I got us transferred to a private room that night as sharing a ward with teenagers with various problems frightened him & it was awful. He is off the iv but still on oxygen. Is really improving, thank you for asking.
