0.4 Centile for Height

My ds just had his 12 month review and is measuring 0.4 centile for height (-4 corrected), which based on his actual age is just below 0.4. He's consistently charted on the 0.4, so is following the curve but my gut instinct is to be very worried, esp now that he'll be measured based on his actual age going forward. The HV seemed unconcerned but I'm wondering if it could be a sign of an underlying problem. Should I be pushing for a paediatric referral?

He was slow to regain birthweight (took 4 weeks) but quickly settled on the 9th centile for weight. Any thoughts/experiences would be welcome!

4 out of 1000 babies will be on or below the 0.4 line. If your ds is tracking the line then he is one of those 4. As long as he's staying on, or round, the line there's no reason to worry.

My ds2 was born at term (elcs at 39 weeks), on the 9th centile and by 4 months dropped to the 0.4th centile. At 4.5 yo he is still on the 0.4th centile.

Someone has to be small, just as someone has to be big in order to make up the centiles. Don't be worried by the numbers on the page, only if you spot something else wrong.

My daughter is on the 95th centile for her height and 91st for weight but only on the 9th centile for head circumference she's 2 ( medical condition is the reasoner still measuring head circumference) but the doctor says that although it's really small compared to the rest of her body as long as she continues on the 9th centile and doesn't drop below it then he's not concerned. I'm sure if there is any concern u wud be the first to know, I sometimes worry but then I know I wud be told If someone was worrying them x

just start from now and see how he goes on forwards - if he stays on 0.4 it s fine. if he drops off then ask for a referal . what is his weight?

if you do get referred to growth clinic remember that first all they do is measure then say come back in six months so we can see what growth he is having and if he follows the line .

I wouldn't worry too much. My DS has been between the 2nd and the 9th centile since birth, despite being 2 weeks late. I have spent far more time than is good for me stressing over it, but I have gradually come to realise that he is just small, there is absolutely nothing wrong with him, and there is nothing I can do about it! I try very hard these days to forget about it, although I do still keep an eye on his growth to make sure he is still following the line. They are within the normal range, and someone has to be at the bottom!

surely it depends on how tall her parents are? if they are both short... ds is more than likely be short.
