Help please! DS has a bright red growth just under his eye

DS who has just turned 2 began with a pink dot on his skin just under his eye that appeared in mid July. In the last 8 weeks it has grown and grown and become raised from the skin. Its now sticking out from the skin and looks really ugly.
Been to the docs three times and on the third visit they agreed to refer him to a pediactric opthalmologist as it is very close to his eye. The doc said it looks like a pyogenic granuloma and is nothing to worry about and could go away by itself but because its so close to his eye she thought it best to refer him.
Anyway its been 4 weeks and not had a letter about his referral so rang the docters and they had a look on his notes and said theres no mention of referral so looks like the doc didn't do it. Got a phone appointment tomorrow to speak to the docter about it but i'm so upset. I've been so worried about this lump but have been clinging on to the fact he was gona see a specialist soon who could tell us what exactly it is and hopefully have it removed so i'm pretty devastated. i imagine we have to wait another 6-8 weeks which is how long she said it would take originally.
Has anyone else's child had one of these growths and did it go away by itself?
DS lump is getting bigger everyday and am find it quite distressing seeing this on his face. :o(

Thanks for you reply Ali! I've researched these alot on the web and it says they bleed profusely. His has been there 2 months and hasn't bled yet, despite me touching it, cleaning it and him rubbing it occasionally. Looks like a pyogenic granuloma but thought it would of bled by now as its getting quite big. Glad it hasn't as its in an area where i'd never be able to put a dressing on as its literally milimetres away from his eye. Do you think its just a matter of time before it does?
How long were your Ds's granulomas there before they began bleeding?
How long did you have to wait to see a specialist?
Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks so much. xxx

I had one of these when I was pg. with DD2 a couple of years ago. It was just inside my bottm eyelid and the first I noticed it was one night when I'd had to get up to tend to DD1, had rubbed my eye and discovered blood. I saw my GP who referred me to a consultant and as I was pg (the hormones seemed to make it grow quickly) was seen pretty quickly. That one was removed under local anasthetic (complete with Clockwork Orange-esque eye opening thingys!) but the consultant did warn that it was possible he hadn't got it all out and it may appear again. It did within about 8 weeks so I had to have it removed completely under day surgery. Again it was a local anasthetic and it didn't hurt a bit though I could 'see' most of what was going on. I've not had another one since.

I hope you get some joy with the GP tomorrow and that you get to see a consultant soon.

DS2 had one on his forehead when he was tiny, he caught it on something once and it bled and bled and bled but didn't disappear. The doc said to leave it for a bit and see if it went, but that it would bleed a lot if it got 'broken'. Then it bled again and this time didn't come back. Lots of blood.

Thanks for that ladies. Has made me feel a bit better.
Will be interesting to see what the Doc says tomorrow. If she hasn't I'll be so annoyed because she said when I went on the 12th Aug she she would refer him that day.

Well spoke to the GP and she had forgot to do Ds's referral so will do it today and will have to wait another 6-8 weeks. Gutted as we've already waited 4 and half weeks with this thing getting bigger and bigger. I dread to think what it will look like by the time we get seen! So fed up.

Dd1 had one on her leg and it did go naturally. She was referred to have it removed in June, appointment came though at start of August, for mid September. However about a week after the appointment came though, we thought it seemed to have stopped growing, and a week later was definitely shrinking, so we cancelled the removal.

It's about a year later and there is a small red flat mark left, but it's going slowly. You wouldn't notice it if you didn't know it was there.

Oh... it never bled, although we were warned it would if she knocked it.

Thanks for that DeWe! How old was your Dd when it appeared? How long was it there before it started shrinking? His hasn't bled yet even though we've been warned it could!
I keep hoping every morning when I go in to get him up that it might of spontanously started shrinking but at the moment it just seems to be getting bigger. Xx

How big is it? I find when they grow quite large it's when they bleed hope u don't have to wait too long. I don't think the opthomologist will remove it ds is seen by a plastic surgeon who arranges removal x

Its about half a cm and sticking out about 3 milimetres off the skin. Where abouts is your Ds's granuloma he has at the moment?
Think the opthalmologist will just have a look at it and if it needs removing then there is opthalmic plastic surgeons so maybe they would do the surgery!
Did u see a dermatologist first before platic surgeon?
Ds is attached to his lower eyelid.

The one at the moment is on his temple x he has had two removed by the eye doctors but they were on the whites of his eyeball x x if it's attached to his lower lid then you are best to see eye doctor x x some of ds's have been removed by scraping and some by cutting them out x each one has left a small scar x

Dd1 was 10yo when I noticed it. I think it was about 6 months before I noticed it shrinking, but I don't know how long it was there before I noticed, (right at top of her leg-I noticed it when going swimming) and was similar size to your ds' at its biggest.

Shelster how is your ds now?
Ds has seen the surgeon and booked in for removal. He has also been referred to Great Orman Street to see if there is an underlying condition to why he gets so many
