Nearly 13 yo DD with REALLY hard lump in breast

I seem to be completely unable to think straight on this. My DD is 13 next month. She has had 2 periods about 6 weeks apart and is now 4 weeks since last one. Showing familiar signs of being due on, a bit moody, ravenous for carbs etc.

Yesterday she said 1 breast was sore and I assumed it was another symptom. However, she came home today and said it was really paniful, hard and hot. There is a large, hard lump sort of below her nipple. She has proper developed breasts so its not like a bud. To me it feels not dissimilar to when I had mastitis.

I am resisiting the urge to google but suspect I should get it checked because of the hotness, the skin does look a bit red but she has been prodding and poking it all day!

Any ideas or just some reassurance?? I'm certain it isn't relevant but to avoid drip feeding she had her first HPV vaccination today.

Sounds like a small blockage but yes it should be checked - if for no other reason than you want to teach her to go straight to the GP in the event of any lumps and bumps.

Thanks Northern - good point. She is quite upset as one of her friends told her she might have breast cancer.

I have been talking to her lately about being aware of changes in breasts so at least that has sunk in.

Will get on the phone to the surgery first thing (and keep trying til noon probably!)

Oh bless her. Breast cancer is beyond unlikely - breast cancer in pre-menopausal women is genetically driven and/or fuelled by oestrogen. At the age she is neither of those factors are likely to come in to play. But it's good to check and also this is uncomfortable and can be easily fixed by a visit to the GP.

Oh your poor dd. If it's hot, painful and has a lump it's most likely some sort of infection. Could be the pore itself, tissue inside the breast or even something like a bug bite that she didn't notice.

Give her a big cuddle and reassure her before a trip to the gp and getting it fixed.

Thanks for your replies. Managed to get a female GP appt first thing (miracle!) It is an infected duct most likely so she has 2 lots of strong antibiotics and strict instructions to cehck it twice a day for signs of an abcess.

GP was brilliant with her and DD hs really taken it in her strde despite having to strip in front of a Dr she's never met before. She is still feeling fine so hopefully we caught it in good time.

Thanks again all.
