Is this a healthy breakfast?

DS (4) just started nursery and I have been having trouble getting him to eat anything in the morning. He never really liked to eat early (despite my best efforts) even when he was a baby. He isn't a fussy eater and loves food any other time of the day, He's more of a brunch guy.

What do you guys think of a healthy fruit smoothie and a yogurt before he leaves? He is only in until 11:30 up until Halloween so I can normally get a toasted muffin into him when he comes home. Then when he starts full time he will get a snack at that time anyway to keep him going until lunch.

Any other breakfast suggestions or tips would help lots.

My 11 yr old loves bacon and sausages, but i dont do them every day. Sometimes its toasted muffin, eggy toast , scrambled egg, pancakes.
He loves those Scotch pancakes with raisins in.....
How about cheese straws, they are a big favourite snack here.
AS he is only small the yogurt and smoothie should keep him going.... and then when he is home he will be hungry and eats plenty. They say a child will never starve if there is food around.

Any healthy food makes a healthy breakfast - long as daily intake is well balanced you're doing a great job :)

A smoothie and yogurt will be fine - if he's not an early eater theres no harm in it at all

Yep, similar to what I used to give my daughter (she never eats large meals, like lots of small ones).

Only thing I would say is if she is having one every day for breakfast then maybe go for the no added sugar yoghurts but I don't suppose it is a big deal either way, in fact maybe she could do with the extra sugar if having a smaller meal - not sure.

I would try this time to change his eating habits. A healthy breakfast is really important and at most schools mid-morning snack is fruit only. Surely there must be some type of cereal/bread he would like and then build it up from there. I think that it is important to establish healthy eating habits sooner rather than later. I would consider bribing him with a reward chart for every breakfast he eats well. Six or seven stars and he might win a little present or nice outing etc. After a little while it hopefully simply becomes a habit and reward chart can go as he will be a 'big boy'. Hope you can sort something out.

My 4.5 yr old (who has just started Reception) is not hungry in the mornings, but will drink. I give her hot milky drinks and make teeny toast 'nuggets' (small bits of wholemeal toast with butter on, which for some reason go down better than a whole slice), but if I am desperate to get her to eat something will offer fruit or cheese.

Eggy bread (french toast) is a big treat.
Something else I do (probably to be frowned upon, but wtf) is offer breakfast 'dessert'. So if they eat their porridge/weetabix/lower sugar first course etc they can have a small bowl of shreddies/coco pops for 'pudding'.

Go for a cooked/savoury breakfast esp in winter months, egg-based meals fill up better and last longer than sweet stuff that only causes sugar swings. I never understood how can people give children cold breakfast whilst parents are having hot tea/coffee, bloomin cruel in the winter!
