My ds3 is a head banger. He does it at night, or infact, just when in bed, and only in bed. He has done it since the day he was born, and I am not worried about it as I am told its called Rythmic Movement Disorder, but I was wondering if anyone knew how and when they grew out of it?!!? We are having building work done at the moment so are all (5 plus two dogs!) sleeping on top of each other right now, and he bangs and bangs and bangs and hums at night as soon as he comes into a lighter sleep which keeps/wakes everyone up.

My eldest now 13 was a headbanger which slowly changed to rocking. It,s hard to remember but it did diminish in intensity by the time he was about 6 but the more gentle rocking continued for 2 or 3 years and even yet if he is very tired! He also did it in the car but generally only at the start of a journey.
He also did it at nursery during quiet time or story time.
I think the general advice is that they stop by the time they go to school so you have a way to go yet!
