Kawasaki disease and aspirin

DS was diagnosed with kawasaki's disease a few weeks ago and spent 5 nights in hospital. Thankfully it was diagnoses really early and he seems to have escaped any damage to his heart.

He is currently on 1 tablet of aspirin 4 times a day, lowered from 2 tabs 4 times a day. Just wondering if this is still classed as the initial 'high' dose, or if it's going to get reduced again. I currently have to wake him at 1am to give it to him, which is messing up his sleep.

Just wondering if anyone else has experience with the after care of kawasaki's, and if so what kind of treatment/tests they received.

Sorry if this post makes no sense, I'm 33 weeks pregnant and getting very little sleep!

No personnel experience but the NHS webpage is normally worth a look.

And after suggesting something sensible, I'm now going to ask a stupid question...
Were you told to administer the aspirin at 6hr intervals?

It's very important to administer some drugs in some conditions at carefully controlled times but have never heard that Kawasaki's is one of them.

Happy to learn something new though so I'd thought I'd check...

Nurses on the paediatric ward, I thought it a bit odd, but I think to start with it was to help control the fever and the pain in his legs, as he was refusing to weight bear, so spaced them out to provide an even dose of pain relief? At first you could tell he was due his meds as he would get cranky and the fever would come back, but now not so much, so maybe I'll phone tomorrow and ask.

Mind you, I'd still have to wake him as you can give them more than every four hours, so would still be waking him up to give them, poor little man!

My ds was mis-diagnosed and didn't receive the right treatment for his Kawasaki disease so i can't comment on the treatment your little one is receiving but she may be able to offer advice.

My daughter was prescribed aspirin for a few days (maybe a week?) after she was discharged from hospital (after 2 nights) following KD. She had two follow up heart scans and ecgs at 3 months and 6 months afterwards and was then discharged (no damage to her heart vessels was found). We were told that she would be invited to join a long term study but that was over two years ago and we have not heard anything.

I think GOSH are doing the long term study, perhaps you can contact the Kawasaki support group to see if they have any info.
