18 month old with virus

DD (18mo) has been out of sorts for about a week now. Initially we thought it was teething as she has a couple of teeth coming through but it became obvious it was much more than that when, over the last few days, she developed a horrible rash on her bottom and legs, stopped eating and is even off her milk.

We took her to the out of hours Dr last night and he said she has a virus and to wait until it's run it's course and in the meantime to try and keep her comfortable.

However, she will not take any medicine, when previously she was happy to take it off a spoon, and is sleeping badly so is overtired and stroppy and on occasion has started going ballistic. This morning she was kicking, screaming and writhing around on the floor totally inconsolable and refusing any comfort from DP or I for the best part of an hour.

I can understand that she's irritable if she's not feeling well and tired and especially if she's feeling crappy as well as teething, but I'm worrying it might be something more as it all just seems a bit extreme.

Anyone had anything similar? How long can I expect this virus to last? And if you have any tips on how to deal with her when she's like this I'll be eternally grateful as at the moment I can't seem to do anything right and just keep making her worse

Have you tried a syringe to get medicine in? (can also be used to get fluid in if that's an issue)

Hope she feels better soon

No not yet ...we have been whimping out of that one so far although I think we may need to resort to it soon.

She's had a nap this morning and just had a bit of toast so maybe she's on the mend

My 17mo dd has just got over this - Today, she is like a different child!

We thought it was teething but I took her to our GP yesterday because the rash looked quite bad and was spreading quickly. She said it was a virus and to give Calpol.

We forgot to give dd Calpol last night but it didnt seem to have mattered.

Dd had the rash for 3 days and once it went she was fine.
