Can I sterilize using just boiling water?

DD2 (11wks) is ocassionally suffering with reflux. I'm hoping the wedgy pillow I've got her propped up on will do the trick, but if not the Dr has given me some gaviscon to give her.

This is a powder which needs to be mixed with 15ml of cooled boiled water & then given to her on a spoon.

I'm trying to work out how I can do this without having to put the steriliser on every night just in case I need it! I wondered if before i went to bed I could pour some boiling water into a couple of bottles, one containing a spoon (to sterilise them), and another to be the cooled water I would use to mix with the powder.

Does that sound ok?

Boil the spoons/bottles for few minutes.

Boil the water (although I wasn't aware that you have to, I thought it's fine to drink tap water?), let it cool down, pour into a bottle (as I think you're supposed to boil stuff for a bit as opposed to hot water killing everything on contact).

AFAIK, sterilising is not necessary, though? I wouldn't bother, hot water and detergent or dishwasher on 70 degrees will do the job.

honestly - i wouldn't bother sterilising the spoon. wash it in hot water and detergent and make sure it is clean. she will soon be grabbing toys and putting them in her mouth and they will be far mankier than a teaspoon...

Ah, ok. I was wondering if it was entirely necessary! Smile It does specifically say "cooled boiled water" so perhaps I'll just put the kettle on to boil before I goto bed & wash a cup up (to mix it in) if & when I need to?

That sounds fine to me.

i found that gaviscon dissolved better in warm water. so even make up the solution before you go to bed? does she REALLY take it off the spoon?!

wish I tried it out yesterday afternoon & no, the spoon didn't work - it just dribbled out of her mouth again! So I used the syringe that came with the baby nurofen, that got the stuff into her, but I think she sicked it all up a few minutes later!

Good idea about mixing it up with warm water, but I'm hoping that I won't have to give her it very often, so don't want to be making it up unnecessarily!
