After a bit of advice if poss. We're in southern Spain & 6m dd has developed a cold & a very chesty cough, rattles when she breathes too. No temperature at all & although a bit miserable not too bad. Have applied vicks for children & given some calpol just not sure whether to go to the chemist or doctor, what do you think?

Thanks

If you are worried, then yes, I would. If you are staying at a hotel they should have a doctor available, otherwise go to the chemist. I have used both services abroad with my children. It will just give you peace of mind.

If DD seems fine in herself, then just treat with calpol and steam therapy. Sit in the bathroom with her, shut the door and turn the hot taps on. The steam will help break up the mucus. But if you are at all worried, find a dr. Simple way to check for chest infection - lie DD on her back with no top, as she breathes, if there is infection, you will see the chest area suck in at the diaphragm. If this is happening, see a dr as she'll likely need antibiotics

Thanks for your replies. Although the cough sounds horrible I don't think it's anything more sinister, if I was at home I wouldn't see the dr at this point so will do the same here for now. Hadn't thought about sitting in a steamy bathroom so thanks for that tip too.

6 months is quite young. I would personally worry that the cold might develop into an ear infection that would make the flight back home pretty uncomfortable.
See a Dr if you can.
