DD with recurring bruised ankle

She is nearly 5. A couple of months ago she had a very bruised ankle. She was able to walk on it and was in no pain or discomfort and it wasn't swollen. The bruise faded and I forgot about it.

Then after a few weeks I noticed it again - same ankle. Huge bruise but no swelling or distress.

She has asthma and is on medications so when I was at the GP a few weeks ago I asked about it. The doctor checked it and said it didn't seem to be a side effect of any meds she was on.

She said it was a very impressive bruise but sometimes children injure themselves and don't rest enough for it to heal properly so it happens again. She didn't seem concerned at all.

It is now all bruised again for about the fifth time.

Does it sound normal for a child this age to have a big reoccuring bruise like this? She has lots of other little bruises on her legs from normal playing, falling etc.

She is clearly not in any pain from it. Should I have it checked again?

WWYD?

Thanks

As it's in a very bruisable location, it's almost certainly normal. And some people seem to bruise more easily than others, so a fairly unremarkable knock, especially for children who can leave a good one.

That it's in the same place suggests it's possibly something she's doing.

Does she cycle? I do a good line in bashing my ankles on the pedals.

Could she be catching her ankle on a piece of furniture, like the dishwasher door when it's open ? (another of my favourites).

If you see more bruises like this in other locations, take her back to the GP

Scooter? My DD is always clonking her ankle with her scooter when she 'walks' it to cross roads etc
