Gunky eye in 6 month old - dr's or just leave it?

6 mo dd2 has just woken up with her eye crusted shut. I know when they are newborn this can happen and you just treat it with cooled boiled water. Do I do the same or do I need to take her to the dr's for antibiotics?

Clean with cool boiled water, take to gp if it doesn't clear in 48 hours

I would book an appointment anyway, then you can cancel if it clears. Better than waiting till it's awful, and then not be able to get an appointment until next blue moon.

Thanks for the advice. My surgery is quite good with appointments on the day so not too worried about that.

She's now just thrown up her milk. Think it might be due to a cough as she did it two weeks ago too. Any chance the two are linked?

Are you breastfeeding? Breastmilk is really good for gunky eyes.

Mine always has gunky eyes with a cold. Definitely not conjunctivitis in her case, though i used to rush her to the docs instead until I got used to it.

I would take her this time, since it is a first, and see what he says. She's only little.
