Growth Hormone Deficiency

Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge of this.or real life experience of this.
I'm a bit concerned about my DS2 growth ( height) he still seems to be gaining weight.
I had him measured a few days before he was 2 the other day and it makes him the 0.04th centile. It was measured properly as where I work I have access to all standardised equipment
At his 6 week check he was on the 75th centile and at 48 weeks he slid down to just under the 25th centile.
In a year and 2 months he has grown just over 7cm, where if he followed that curve he would of grown 12-13cm I'm noticing that his peers are beginning to really tower above him and as he is not shooting up in height and is getting stockier looking.
My children are not destined to be tall as my husband is 5ft 9 and I am just over 5ft 2. Makes his mid-parental centile between the 25th and 50th which is exactly what DS1 is following.

I started really noticing his shorter height a few months ago and should of got him measured so I could see the change from then to now. I presume I now need to leave it a few months to see if he has a sudden growth spurt.

Be grateful for any advice or opinions.

DS2 was born on the 75th centile and then just stopped growing around 4 months. No matter what we did with his diet he just did not grow and went down to under the 0.2nd. Then, while being monitored by the paediatrician, he started suddenly to grow up to the 9th and has remained there ever since. DS1 is average. The paediatrician's only answer was that growth is never uniform and, sometimes factors they'll never know about delay physical growth. (He has a physical developmental delay too.)

As long as his height is not delaying his physical development in any way I think it's a long time before they'd refer you for any investigation...

Hi there mum2JRC,

Our son has Growth Hormone Deficiency and the clear thing for him was he literally did not grow at all for 2 years and his feet stayed the same size for 2.5 years - I think docs only consider it's a deficiency requiring daily injections if their speed of growth is growing the wrong direction - so if it's plotted on a speed chart for growth, if the line is absolutely downwards, then it means he's not growing or stopped growing.

Our son also had a very large tummy which is in line with Growth Hormone Deficiency and his feet had not grown. Good news is since he has been on Growth Hormone injections daily, he has grown 4.8 cms since last August.

Good luck and hope your son does okay but keep speaking with doctors if you're concerned.
