Hiya everyone

Just looking for some advice. My DD constantly suffers from constipation and I have tried everything to get her poo a bit looser, fresh fruit, veg, porridge etc this has been the case for a few months and GP wont do anything. When she needs to poo she runs about the room and goes red in the face when pushing. yesterday morning when I changed her nappy (was too late to get her on her potty) there was fresh red blood in the poo and on her bum. Is there anything else I should be doing to help her, should I take her back to the GP? I will check with her nursery today when I pick her up but i am worrying a lot about her.

Hi, we had the same problem with my DD (now 2). Often when they're running round yelling & looking like they're pushing they're actually trying not to poo coz it hurts. If she had blood in her nappy it's likely she's got a fissure (which is what happened with my DD too) from doing a big poo, meaning next time she poos it'll probably be very sore & she'll try not too, & she'll get more constipated & the cycle continues.

I'd get back to your GP & ask them to prescribe either lactulose or movicol (which is fab). We've been on lactulose for a good while now, cut out bananas, DD has diluted orange juice with lunch & tea & try to encourage lots of fluids & fruit (grapes & blueberries seem to help lots). Prune juice / prunes are supposed to be good if you can get her to eat them! It's taken over 6 months, but things are much better with us. Hope that helps.

I know, it's really horrible when they're so distressed & you can't do anything to help - hope you get somewhere tomorrow with the GP.

took DD to the GP today they finally prescribed lactulose so hopefully this will help. I explained how I have changed her diet etc to try and help her poo but explained this still isnt working, and advised her poo is like rabbit droppings sometimes just a few in her nappy and other times it's hundreds all compacted. doc said that the bleeding was possibly just a tear in her skin but to keep an eye on her. Ive to take her back in a month for a further check up. Just worried about impaction, a friend's DS suffered from this, took 6 weeks to flush out his body and now he suffers from IBS so im very worriedabout my lovely DD.fingers crossed this will work!
