Sicky baby, hiccups loads and soooo much wind?

My DS seemed to have reflux, he spat up a lot up to the age of 8 months and, I thought, had quite a bit of wind. He got out of it and I never needed to give him the gaviscon we were given by the doctor.

I was hoping that DD (12 days) would be different, not so much washing, constant clothes/bedding changing. If anything, she seems worse.

She hiccups a lot, has sooo much wind from both ends, I have never know a baby like it. She has also thrown up a couple of times over the last 2 days, but as DH says, its when she hasn't winded, then you lay her down and either she is sick or you pick her up and she brings it up.

She is feeding (formula) quite often, seems to want a bit every hour to 2 hours at the moment, although early morning she will take a bigger feed and sleep for quite a while. Later afternoons and evenings, she seems to want quite frequent feeds where she is having 8-9 a day.

I did BF for 5 days and even then she had quite a bit of wind and would come off so I could wind her, that was pretty frequent too.

Any ideas?

My DD (11 wks) was diagnosed with silent reflux. She used to have hiccups all the time, fed constantly (apparently they say it's to soothe the oesphagus (sp?) and dribbled like mad. She was in constant pain and screamed MOST of the day. After starting the infant gaviscon she is like a different baby. As you DS had reflux is it possible that your DD has silent reflux? I note you say your DS got away without having to take med's - maybe your DD needs to try some? Good luck xxx

I have read up on silent reflux and it is something I am considering but she doesn't scream, only cries when she wants feeding or changing and is generally asleep apart from that, although she is getting a bit unsettled sometimes, seems to want a feed, we make one and she takes a minimal amount then is totally asleep. Its getting very frustrating to be doing this every couple of hours.

Sounds exactly like my 12 day old DS. He constantly farts, burps, hiccups and is a bit of a grunter at night too.
He is BF so I don't think it is anything to do with the milk. The only things I have found that have helped are that I've stopped drinking carbonated water and he hasn't been as bad (but that isn't going to help you!) and I also hold him upright ish for a while after a feed as otherwise he tends to spit up. It seems to have got better over the last few days.
If I recall correctly, DD was like this too and we got prescribed gaviscon for reflux but never needed to use it.
I was told it could just be his body is too immature to deal with the wind at the moment but at least he is able to fart and burp as it's better than it being trapped!
Not much help, I know but wanted to let you know you're not the only one!

It does make me feel better to know that a BF baby is doing the same thing. I have been wondering if it is the formula/bottles/way we are feeding DD etc.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one. Smile

Sounds just like reflux to me. Sorry.

Thats what I'm thinking. At least if it is, gaviscon should help her. Its horrible to see DD being sick and being uncomfortable from wind all the time.

Gaviscon did nothing for my dd. Ranitidine helped enormously and turned a very unhappy baby into a normal baby.
