Nits - very bumpy itchy scalp - piriton or no?

Discovered my DS (5) has nits this morning. Have wet combed with conditioner and will treat overnight with nit stuff tonight. His poor wee scalp is really pink and covered in bumps which I assume is from being bitten, being allergic to the bites or just from scratching (or all three).

Just wondering whether anyone has ever given Piriton as a way to soothe the itchy scalp.

Or do you think I should just leave alone and it'll get less and less itchy as the little buggers will be dying from now on. I don't want to 'overload' his body with the nit stuff and piriton as well.

Grrr......bloody hate nits.

Thanks PMcP he was really itchy after the treatment and before bed so gave him some piriton. Might try and get some loratadine for during the day if it doesn't get better. Thanks very much!
