DS sicky and off balance

Ds is two and for months has been losing his balance - and being sick almost every morning

an audiologists appointment revealed fluid in his inner ear. his hearing is fine, but his balance is terrible - he was running around last summer, and now he is back to hobbling about holding onto things.

DR said the treatment was grommetts (which i understand involves a short op under GA)

is there anything else i could ask to try first?

anti-bs?
ear drops?

today he is particularly sick, and we have an appt friday - any suggestions for alternatives to ask for?

It does sound like gromits would help him.
Anti-biotics or ear drops might help to clear up a temporary infection, but if he has them too regularly it isn't good. Also, some fluid in the ear is not caused by an infection at all.

Putting gromits in his ears is a very minor and very common operation. It does involve a GA, but you should try not to worry too much. I know lots of little boys who have had gromits put in with no ill effects.

If you do go for that option, the liquid will be drained and will stay drained. He will regain his balance and will be less likely to get ear infections in the future.
It will also help his speech, which is probably suffering due to the fluid too.

Explain your worried to the doctor and I'm sure he will put your mind at ease.

thank you, yes anti-bs don't look likely to do anything according to google...

ironically i got the appt for audiology because his sisters spech was dlayed...he babbles away fine.

Have they done any other tests? MRI?

I'd ask for a paediatrician referal to be honest. I don't mean to frighten you but it's best that things like this are checked out thoroughly.

My DD1 had her adenoids out and grommets in last September as she was completely bunged up. I wish I had known about it at the time, but homeopathy sorts out glue ear and fluid in the ear, absolutely perfectly. I was a real sceptic about homeopathy but it has made a serious difference to our DD1's life. If you are looking for an alternative to surgery, homeopathy might just be your answer.

in the end i was sick so DH took LO to GP.

he gave Otomize ear spray for current ear infection and recommended i get DS to inhale steam somehow...to clear his eustachian tubes.
so DS is having a hot bath every day.

would a vapouriser be worth getting for his room? or not?

we have another appt in 2 weeks but i really want at least try to make this work.
