DD is 5 she keeps getting shooting pains in her uretha, she says it feels like someone stabbing. This happens around once a week for a full night and she is in agony with it. The pain usually goes off after calpol and nurofen and we warm her beddy bear a bit and she puts that between her legs. When this is happening she trys to have a wee and has to kind of push to go. Could something be swelling?

We have been to the gp who has ruled out a uti, and said if it happoened again to go back and see a lady gp for an examination. This happened again last night so we will be booking an appt monday. Just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar.

She also say she feels wet a lot, but she is not dont know if this has anything to do with it.

DD1 went through this on and off for a while between 5 and 6. There were no other physical symptoms at all and it only happened at night - full on screaming. Eventually we worked out that she was putting it on as an excuse to be able to come into our bed. It stopped when we explained that if she wanted a cuddle to just come in for a cuddle and how worried it made mummy and daddy when she said she was sore - so only to say she's sore if she really is. I think the first time she probably was sore - I think from not drying/wiping herself properly

I'm not saying this is the case with your DD - just sharing our story

Thanks Ginmake I thought she might be putting it on at first, although she doesnt like coming in my bed :)

But now I dont think she is as she seems to be in so much pain and she actually shoots up the bed when she gets a shooting pain. I generaaly know when she is putting things on, she seems to get a tummy ache every night just before bath time lol. I thinks this is real :(

Have you checked for threadworms? They can irritate the urethra and generally only irritate at night.

Agree with pixie, just buy the medicine, lots of kids have them - yes they are a bit urrgh but very common, lots of people have them but will not realise. Most common signs are an itchy bottom at night as the worms are active then. You could try having a peep at her bits at night, perhaps after she's had a bath and is in her PJ's. The worms look like tiny wriggly pieces of thread (hence the name). If she does have them it's also worth putting all her bedding on a hot wash, damp dusting her bedroom and avoiding sharing towels. The medicine also needs to be taken by all the family.
