Hi

Has anyone else experienced this? My dd had a bad reaction after I applied oil all over and now is is sore under her arms, behind her legs and in her wrist and ankle creases. We dry her properly after baths. I just don't know what to do :(

Doctor said just bath, dry and e45 but it isn't helping. I could cry I feel so crap that she is sore.

Anyone else experienced the same?

Sarah

Not experienced this, but I never used almond oil when dd was young. It is good as a base for aroma therapy oils but they can generally not be used for children. Plus not almond oil is good quality, you want ideally a light almond oil appropriate for cooking.

If it is very sore, I would indeed have a daily bath with an oat based product, or even better put oats in a flannel around the tap whilst filling the bath (oats have been proven to calm the skin), after that good drying and if possible leave without clothes for a while (if house or her room is warm enough). I think I would treat it as a bad nappy rash but not smear other things on the skin. If she is in pain I would give some calpol if she is old enough for it. Also, loose cotton clothing and if it is also in the nappy area leave without nappy as much as possible. I would expect to see a major improvement in a week. If not, back to GP. Be careful with using products as aquaeous cream as they block the pores and can result in skin infections. I wouldn't use any creams at the moment, as the problem seems not to be dry skin but irritated skin due to almond oil. So smearing something else on might make it worse. Hope you resolve it soon.
