baby's first time d & v - am I doing this right?

DS 6 months projectile vomited up two early morning feeds (BM) this morning. He then kept down feeds at 9, 11:15, 1:45, etc - in fact no more vomiting today - but instead he has had watery diahorrea since midday.

Other than that, and a little bit of extra sleeping, he is his usual cheery smiley self, trying to suck his toes, no temperature and no pain when we gently prod his tummy.

Am I doing this right:

I have been BFing him at the usual times, and also given him a bit of mushed up banana.

I am also giving him a few mL of Dioralyte (made up with cooled boiled water) after every bowel movement.

We will watch him closely overnight and contact the emergency doctor if he's worse by tomorrow morning.

Is there anything else I should be doing or watching out for? Trying not to be paranoid/rush to A&E where he'd probably pick up swine flu.

What you are doing sounds fine to me (mother of 4 children). Cooled boiled water would be fine if the dioralyte ran out.

You need to keep checking for signs of dehydration and ensure there are some wet nappies although this can be hard when every nappy has diarrhoea in it. General signs, like the fact that he is happy in himself, count for a lot too.

Sounds perfect to me, if he starts being sick after BF again, try giving him smaller/shorter feed but more often or just dioralyte will be fine.
Your right to aviod AandE but keep an eye that he isn't getting dehydrated, you could try putting cotton wool pads over his willy in his nappy to reassure you he is actually peeing as it can be hard to tell with diarrhoea as well, and try to follow your 'mummy instinct' if he gets any worse and is not tolerating any fluids seek help.

Poor DH was up all night with DS who did another projectile vomit after his late night feed. came down this morning to find a pile of dirty nappies bagged up in the corner, but again no more vomiting and so far this morning since 8 no more diahorrea. Great idea re the cotton pad - but fortunately baby peed right through his Trojan onto me at his 2 am feed, and the colour was clear. He's still happy tho rather sleepy - in my arms right now while DH anodes on the sofa.

Thanks so much for your support and advice - I really appreciate it!
