Hi there, my dd who is 4 started with a high temperature on Thursday so I took her to the doctor on Friday as it was Christmas Eve and I was worried we wouldn't be able to see a doctor over Christmas. Anyway, doctor checked her over and said it was a throat thing and also her eye all gunky so gave antibiotics.

We are now on the last day of the antibiotic and they haven't worked at all so am presuming the thing she has is a virus. We have been alternating the Calpol and Calprofen every few hours but her temperature is still up. First thing this morning it was over 40 again and is now down to 38.4 but only after loads of medicine.

Do I just ride it out for a few more days do you think? (my ds had what I presume must have been the same thing a couple of weeks ago and had the high temperature for a week but he seemed better in the daytime - dd is just lying on the sofa this morning watching a dvd). I feel so sorry for her - she's had such a rubbish Christmas :(

Mine has the same we've been told its flu or swine flu, offered the antivirals but the gp said they'd probably make him feel worse and they are most effective taken in the forst 48hrs.. We started Christmas eve and its still going here now the others are showing symptoms.
So we're riding it out

Bless you - it's horrid, isn't it? Just seems to go on and on. I was in fact wondering about swine flu as they've both also got this horrible sounding cough. Hope your dc better soon wonka.
