HI
DS has asthma and has had a chest infection. He seemed loads better this morning and was playing although he didn't eat anything.
By lunch time he was flopped on the sofa and slept for three hours.(had no lunch) When he woke up he was saying his chest hurt and didn't move off the sofa. He had a bath and seemed better but still did not eat much(two yogurts) He went to bed and then has woken up and says his chest hurt. He has had ventolin ,and calpol but still saying it hurts. He is not wheezey but is coughing a bit and is full of cold. Would you get him seen?

I personally would if he really is in pain, but only as I was told that you should be concerned when your chest hearts when you are inactive.

I am sure some one who knows more will be along soon though.

Phone NHS direct 08454647 for better advice than I can give

I would at least ring NHS direct. If his chest is still tight he needs more of his inhaler, if he has maxed out his inhaler then he needs seen by a DR.

How old is he? I think I'd phone NHS tbh and take their advice.

I would see a dr, asthma can get so bad so fast, I was told with DS not to wait until I'm really worried as that is often too late. Chest hurting when resting would be worrying for me. Probably nothing but I like to be cautious!

Definitely get seen by an out of hours doctor.

Have you had a look at his chest? Is he breathing with his tummy or us the skin drawing in between his ribs?

If so call an ambulance.

I would get him checked. If he is coughing perhaps he has strained something and that's what's hurting? Worth getting checked out though even if just for your peace of mind

Yes,could be pleurisy could be infecrion needin antibiotics or could be effort of breathing. I would just ring for out of hours gp. He needs checking. Poor him.

If in any doubt then yes get him seen. Far better to go for a check and be told all ok than to sit at home worrying and/or possibly get worse.

good, I got told off last week for not going to A&E a day earlier by the nurse - he was very stern as I had had a pain in my chest

Don't bother with NHS direct - there are so many nasty bugs doing the rounds they are rushed off their feet.

Go straight for OOH doctor - in my area they are fab and would prioritise a call about a child for a 20 minute call back and then the doctor can decide if he wants you to come in or not.

HTH

cedmonds if that was NHS direct did you speak to someone medically trained? If not and if you are still concerned please call OOH and at least speak to a doctor.

Hope you can get him to sleep x

try running a nice hot bath to steam the bathroom up and take him in their and sit with him if he is still awake - this will help to relieve his chest if it is a phlemy chest he has with a cough.

A glass or mug of hot squash will also be nice for his chest

Do you have any prednisolone to give him?

Hi he didnt sleep was coughing lots and saying it hurts he had a nebuliser and then settled for a few hours. I have got pred for him but he has only come of two weeks worth.SO really don't want to give it to him as he was on it all last winter and got lots of side effects from it. He has seen the GP today and they have changed his antibiotics to stronger ones and he is playing a bit now and has had some lunch. He is so full of cold which isnt helping. Thanks for you help
