Have you any medication?
Can you sit her up right on pillows, put a rolled towel under her knees and a pillow at her feet to help keep her up right.

Ah poor thing. DS had this recently and coughed until he was sick several nights. I gave him extra pillows to prop him up and even resorted to ye olde Vicks on the feet trick. Plus warm drinks in the night and eventually just taking him in with us for cuddles. Poor wee things, it's awful.

Thanks. We do have various childrens cough mixtures, but they seem pretty useless tbh. Will try the vicks on the feet as have heard that before - cant do any harm! Have given her extra pillow but will add more.

Notyummy, if you put down 1 pillow as normal and then make an inverted v with 2 and then another one on top it should keep her up right.
Poor thing home she feels better soon

ThNks ladies. I will keep her off school tomorrow (she got sent home early because of thus today). She is desperate to go in for the last day on Friday and then we are supposed to be flying to Geneva for the weekend to see friends on Saturday. Fingers crossed...

Also try making the room humid, it really helped my 2 yr old recently. I soaked towels, then wrung them out and put them on the radiator; and put several cups of just boiled water in his room (out of reach obviously)

My son had this recently. I tried everything I could find on MN - sips of water, pillows, wet towels on radiator, Vicks, Ventolin inhaler, etc. After three hours of hell, I opened the window in a desperate last attempt (remembering that cold air helps croup) - and he stopped coughing and went to sleep. Now, it may have been that he'd exhausted himself by then rather than that it was the open window, but it might be worth a try. (I didn't leave the window open for long, btw - far too cold.)

Hope you both get some sleep somehow.
