Chicken Pox!

I have just gone to chage my DD nappy 1:1 years old and she has a few red spots. not loads for about 20 all over her stomache, back and scalp. She had a raging temperature on Saturday past and has been off colour the past few days. I have got her in at the Dr's later today to confirm if it is or isn't chicken pox.

If it is when can she go out because we have a outing to a Father Christmas winter wonderland thing booked for Saturday with DH, DS, DD and myself with some friends and their 2 children. If she has it it'll be in the early stages.

Also my son had them a bout 3 yrs ago and my husband got shingles too. Will he be likely to contract them again this time round?

it is normally 5-7 days from when the spots start to come out that you are no longer contagious i.e. when they have gone scabby. You dont get shingles from chicken pox as shingles is the re-activation of the chicken pox virus that lies dormant in the nerves. You can get chicken pox from shingles but not the other way round.

Exposure to your children's CP will actually help prevent your husband (and you) from getting shingles again, at least in the near future. Because your husband's immune system will be reminded to keep making antibodies against CP.
My guess is you'll be ok for the Saturday outing, but it's iffy. Plenty of people on here will tell you not to chance it.

I see so it would have been my DH who gave my DS chicken pox then maybe.

More spots are appearing as the afternoon progresses so it looks like it's chicken pox. Rather now though i suppose than Christmas Day. Poor little thing.

Quite possibly your DH caused the CP, did your DS come out with CP about 2 weeks after your DH got his shingles? I reckon I got CP off of an old man with shingles.

DS got them and then within a week DH got shingles.

10% get shingles more than once but it is unrelated to contact with bouts of cp. Can't you or dh go with your ds and the other stay behind or find a relative to babysit. That way you lose less money and your ds still gets his treat.

The outing does not have to be cancelled, as you or your dh can stay home with dd, so somebody can still take your ds!

I would not recommend taking your dd. There might be other people with a compromised immune system or pregnant women who should not be in contact with the virus.
