Painful poos

My DD is 2.5 and has been absolutely sobbing today every time she has done a poo. Utterly beside herself, and she's normally the kind to take a bit of pain in her stride.

Her poos have been pale and hard.

Gp on Monday, or do something tomorrow? Feel so bad for her as also thing she is growing a tooth and fighting ongoing staph skin infection.....

Poor little thing. Perhaps she has a cut or something on her bottom which is hurting her? My daughter is the same age and she used to cry when pooing and she would have fresh blood too. HV said was a little cut caused by straining and not to worry but it isn't nice to see them so upset.

If poo is hard she is probably constipated. Try giving her plenty of water and fruit and veg. Certainly worth checking with GP though since she was obviously in pain.

Prune juice and lots of water should help keep it soft. You could also try lactulose, if she won't take prune juice (we sometimes mix it with oj).

MarmMummy I'm having the same problem with my 1.5yo DS, he's now in a vicious cycle of holding it in because he's scared to go, and making it worse. He's practically living on prunes at the moment, I'm going out of my mind!! What did the GD say to you?
