Hi Everyone,

I'm really worried about my DS. He's 4 years old and had chicken pox about 2 weeks ago. This week he started with a cold and for the last week he has been wanting to go to bed at 6pm as he's so tired. Normally I can't get him into bed before 8:30!! Also he doesn't want to eat anything and just wants to drink. I'm really worried as some of these symptoms sound to me like diabetes. Can you get that at 4? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i have had similar worries about my ds1 (4.9) (not the chicken pox bit though, he had that at 18 months old) he gets like this when he is brewing ear infections or tonsilitis. he has very recently had his tonsils and adenoids out (for sleep apnoea as well as the frequent tonsillitis) but having said that has been utterly exhausted today and drinking gallons again...

anyway, could be worth him having a general check over by a doc next week?

You can get it as a baby if you are very unlucky! Is he drinking loads and also weeing loads? Does his breath smell a bit like pear drops, or leastwise a very unusual smell (ketones)? If you are worried pop him along to the GP for a urine test, takes two minutes and rules out diabetes. It may just be that he he still under the weather from the viral onslaught and his body is telling him what to do to get better - sleep and drink plenty. I would encourage food though - favourites and treats Wink

Get him a check with the dr, but it's probably a post viral fatigue kind of thing. My dc's seem to be under constant viral onslaught at this time of year, there is never one who isn't sneezing or coughing or under the weather.

A week on so hopefully your little one is much better. But your thread reminded me that when my ds had chicken pox it really knocked the stuffing out of him. It took him three or four weeks to recover probably.
