DD (8) seems to get them every few months for the last 3 or 4 years - so guessing between 15 and 18 times.

She:

  1. doesn't use enough paper to wipe poos
  2. Forgets to wash her hands on a v regular basis
  3. Sucks her thumb every night

I'm very sure this is the cause of the prob having looked it up. Have tonight finally agreed to take her to doc's just so someone apart from me can tell her all this!

Any tips? Any cures? Is she a freak or are there other slightly mucky kids out there who get them? Is she suseptable to them and I need to get her checked out?

She's so desperately uncomfy at night squirming and wriggling and crying it's driving me potty, and I know she would love it to go away

Poor thing they are horrid. I suspect you are right about why she is getting them so often. Maybe tackle one of the three problems -for example focus on hand washing and nail scrubbing? Especially last thing before bed?

Can you explain it all to her? show her pictures or nab a worm to show her? tell her about the link between washing her hands and sucking her thumb etc.
Presumably, she's also possibly infecting other kids at school. I used to get them from school. It's horrid. I got them 2 years ago (at age 44 !!!) and blame my nieces poor hygeine.
Give her Pripsen to kill them off and get her started on a good handwashing regime.

My Dd started nursery a few weeks ago and his week has started to suck her fingers and her thumb having never really done it before (it seems she's copying a classmate), so I've got straight to the point about other children not necessarily being clean after the toilet and that she'll get germs and worms and be poorly. She's only 3.9, but I'll keep on at her until she gets it.
