How do I put this gel in DS' mouth?

DS (8mo) has got oral thrush and has been prescribed a gel to treat it. I'm supposed to spread it all over his mouth, tongue, lips etc four times a day. But the poor little devil darling clamps his gums shut, biting me with his one tooth and immediately swallows whatever I do manage to get in there. Then he starts crying. The last time I took advantage of his crying to smear it round a bit more, but of course that just made him cry more.

Any tips on how to do this without so much crying and angst? And how to stop him swallowing it straight away?

I can't imagine you will be able to do it without him crying but to stop him biting you put your index finger on his lower gum towards the back of his mouth about where his back teeth would be if he had them. When he tries to close he'll gum down and his mouth will be propped open then get the gel in as fast as you can. There is no easy way to do it I'm afraid.
