Why don't you try putting on a stratch mitt?

and then as she gets older, try to wean her off or use a dummy temporarily.

My 9mo DS has this too - the nail is thin and weak and sometimes he gets a sore red crack in the skin too. I doesn't help that he has reflux so I think he gets acid on it

But I don't want to wean him off it yet as it gets him to sleep!

its never bothered me that she sucks it cause it helps her to sleep too just im a little concerned about her nail, ive got some of the nasty tasting liquid you can pop on the
nail, she wasnt bothered by the taste tho lol think if it gets any worse i better take her to the the doctor and see what they say

I'm 36 and I still suck my thumb It is a bugger of a habit to break! It has pushed my teeth out of alignment - giving me a MASSIVE overbite and has deformed my thumb. It is something that you really have to try to get them out of asap. The longer you leave it, the harder it will be.

poor you- really sympathise- this happened to me and dd- ended up at minor injuries as i thought she'd spilled bleach on her thumb t looked so awful! they bandaged it up for 2 days and it healed- she hated it- but it did help- then just had to try and limit sucking, vasaline helped. good luck, get some advice- it will improve. dd is 5 now and still a thumb sucker but no probs!

Can only agree with Queen of witches. Same happened to my bro, huge overbite, very goofy, badly bullied and brace needed for 4.5 years!! A woman at a baby massage group I used to go to would shove her 8 week old babys thumb in her mouth when she grizzled, and was a complete dummy snob... My ds had a dummy until 14 months and never wanted it after that. I don't know how you can stop it, I was going to suggest the nail stuff. Or putting plasters on them. Honestly not just her thumb, it will absolutely ruin her mouth and teeth.

I only mentioned stratch mitt because I used to put one on my daughter when she was born so that she didn't scratch herslf. She got so used to it that when she cried, I had to put a mitt on so that she would suck her thumb thru the mitt to go to sleep.

I had to make her some bigger ones when she was 3 but at her first dentist appointment, the dentist told her that she had to stop sucking her thumb or she would have stuck out teeth so that night onwards, she immediately stopped sucking her thumb. Very good disciplin.

I told her that it would end up like me, (I have slightly sticky out teech as I stopped at the age of about 6 I think.

With my 2nd girl, she has a dummy but I stopped that when she was 3 at Xmas. I told her the Santa needed all her dummies for the new babies as there wasn't enough to go around. She plut 20 on a plate and theat night onwards, she never asked for one since.
Thank god for that.

good luck.

Hi,
I had the very same problem with my son! I put the mavala stuff on his thumb and he would suck it and then spit out the bad taste!
So after searching online and found these really cheap gloves that work & they didn't even charge for shipping. I got him the blue pair, because he loves being Sonic the Hedgehog...
oh here is the site endthumbsucking.com/ - Stop Thumb sucking
